Fáilte go Rang a Dó!
September & October in Rang a Dó
2nd Class have had a very busy term! We started this term off by learning all about ourselves and our bodies. We created and painted our own life size drawings and labeled them as Gaeilge.
We had lots of fun competing in the school relay team day where we got to take part in different relay races. The winning teams were very happy with their prizes!
We also enjoyed a trip to the Abbey Centre to see the film ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’ as part of the Wainfest festival. Everyone was so well behaved and thought the film was ‘class.’
We have been attending mass every couple of weeks in preparation for our First Holy Communion and we have enjoyed learning new songs to sing at mass.
This week we celebrated Halloween in class by learning all about the Day of the Dead festival and we created and decorated our own sugar skulls. We had ‘spooky P.E’ this week and we are looking forward to a great day on Friday when we attend the Halloween Disco dressed up in our costumes.
We are looking forward to another busy term on the run up to Christmas!

November & December i Rang a Dó
Táimid an-ghnóthach i Rang a Dó na laetha seo! What a busy term we have had here in 2nd class! Our class are full of Christmas cheer and are ready for the big man to arrive!
Back in November we were very lucky to visit the Abbey Centre to listen to some storytelling by Joe Brennan. This was one of the events organised as part of the Allingham festival and children enjoyed the interactive stories that Joe had to tell them.
We also thoroughly enjoyed a hurling session with some of our Past Pupils who are now in Coláiste. We had a great time and we definitely have a few future hurling All Stars in our midst!
We have been learning about playground games in the past and have been trying out some of the games on the playground - our favourite one being ‘Four Corners.’ We have also been doing lots of practical Maths and making our own 3D shapes.
We have been very busy with our school play called ‘A Tale of Two Birthdays.’ We’ve had great fun learning all the new songs and dances and everyone shone on the stage on Monday past - maith sibh a pháistí!
Our Christmas Art has filled our classroom with beautiful pictures of winter wonderlands, Patrick Kielty’s Christmas jumper and also beautiful Christmas decorations showing the nativity scene. Some of our Christmas decorations have been displayed on our School Christmas Tree in St Anne’s Church as part of their Christmas Tree festival.
After all our hard work in the lead up to our Christmas play, we visited the cinema to watch 'Wicked.' Everyone enjoyed the film and the popcorn and drinks went down a treat!
We have also been busy learning lots of new songs for our special assembly with Cannon Munster held on Friday past. Some of our new songs we have sung at Mass and we are still regularly attending mass every two weeks in preparation for receiving our Holy sacraments in the new year.
We’d like to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year! Nollaig shona daoibh go léir!

2nd Class have had an extremely busy Term 2!
Towards the end of January we celebrated Grandparent’s Day with Mass for our Grandparent’s followed by a little tea party in our classroom - everyone had a ball!

Lots of active learning took place. Our writing genre this term was procedural writing and we learned how to make lots of different things from tea making to instrument making to planting seeds! We then learned how to write a procedural piece of writing giving clear instructions.
We’ve also been very active this term. We studied Gymnastics back in January and February. We also learned some Céilí dances that we showcased on our Lá Glas. We began playing football with Brian Roper every Tuesday and everyone’s Gaelic skills are really coming along. Towards the end of the term we began our Swimming lessons that will continue into our 3rd term and everyone has made a great start and are really enjoying their lessons. We also started the ‘Skipping Around Europe’ active schools initiative where we skip everyday in class for 10 minutes and count our skips that take us to different countries in Europe. We’ve already reached Turkey and Greece and we are only into the 2nd week!
Children received the sacrament of First Penance in March. They worked hard to prepare for this special occasion and they were all fantastic on the day! We’ve attended mass every 2 weeks in St Joseph’s Church and have learned lots of new songs. We are now busy preparing for our First Holy Communion that will be celebrated on Saturday 24th May.

We celebrated Seachtain na Gaeilge back in March and took part in loads of activities throughout the week to promote and encourage us to use our Irish as much as possible. A highlight from the week was our Tráth na gCeist (Quiz) with 3rd class and the Gaelscoil children and also our Céilí with the younger classes. Ms Curran was very impressed with everyone’s efforts to use their Irish on a daily basis - maith sibh a pháistí!
We’ve had plenty of visitors into the class to talk to us about different aspects of the curriculum. We enjoyed a water safety talk where we learned all about how to save lives at sea and how to keep ourselves safe. We got to see some really cool Salmon and different water mini-beasts when the workers from the Inland fisheries Ireland visited the school. We also have some special visitors who have stayed a little bit longer with us - our tadpoles have hatched and are quite happily swimming around. We’ve loved watching them grow and we wish them a safe return to their natural habitat over Easter!
We celebrated World Book Day, pancake Tuesday and Ash Wednesday all in the one week! Children loved getting their pancakes and would like to thank the Parents’ Association for making them such yummy treats! They also really enjoyed their dramatic reading of some stories by Ms Lewis and were delighted to design their own book covers of their favourite stories.
2nd Class have been working extremely hard and deserve a well earned rest over their Easter Holidays!
They’ll need to be well recharged for another busy term in May/June! Beirígí bua a pháistí!
