Welcome 4th/5th class 2024/2025
Summer Term
We have had a fun filled final term in 4th and 5th class from active week, Sport for All day, darts competition, enjoying the lovely weather, swimming, school league finals, Ukulele, French with Eva, Siopa na Scoile, and our school trip to ‘The Share Village’. We also learned all about Australia and we designed our own travel brochures. We researched Aboriginals and created Aboriginal artwork.

Sport for All day
We really enjoyed Sport for All day. We started with hurling, then a trip to Pearse’s for ice cream, dancing at the disco, GAA skills, obstacle courses, tag rugby and finally Zumba.

Easter News
4th and 5th Class have had a very busy term with lots happening in school. We have enjoyed celebrating St Brigid’s, Pancake Tuesday, Valentines, World Book Day and Lá Glas for St Patrick's Day.
We have been very active this term. We had Hurling, Gaelic and we started swimming this term too. 5th Class also completed a cycle skills workshop.
4th and 5th Class have really enjoyed skipping this term. As part of our active schools, we have been skipping around Europe.

English and Gaeilge
In English this term we have been focusing on procedural writing. We love our new books for our classroom library and have been enjoying getting lost in our books during DEAR time. In Gaeilge, we have been learning all about the themes Caitheamh Aimsire, Sa Bhaile and An Teilifís. We have also started to learn French.

SESE and Maths
In SESE, we learned all about the history of the Titanic and we created a timeline of events. We researched Brazil and created excellent PowerPoint presentations to present to our peers. We also learned about magnets.
We have been working hard in our Maths learning about money, time, length, decimals and fractions.

Christmas in 4th & 5th Class
We have been very busy the last few weeks practising our Christmas performance ‘I’m a Santa Claus Get Me Out of Here’. We performed our play on Friday for our families. A big Well Done to all the children. Miss Johnston was very proud of them, they were SUPER!
We have been getting into the Christmas spirit at school with a visit from Santa Claus, singing Christmas songs and playing Christmas songs on our Ukuleles. We are excited about going on our cinema trip this week to see the movie ‘Home Alone’.

Art
We have really enjoyed doing Winter/Christmas Art over the past few weeks. We learned all about the artist James Rizzi. We created our own winter cityscapes inspired by his work. We also painted winter windows and drew gingerbread houses.
Maths
4th and 5th Class have been doing lots of active Maths. We have been working hard on our multiplication, long division, lines and angles and 2D shapes.
Gaeilge
In Gaeilge, we have been learning all about the themes Bia, Geimhreadh agus An Nollaig. We designed our own Biachlar. We have enjoyed playing games as Gaeilge and learning new vocabulary on our themes this term.
SESE
We carried out lots of exciting science experiments during science week - lava lamps, flying helicopters and we really enjoyed constructing a tower with spaghetti and marshmallows.
4th and 5th class worked in small groups researching ‘Christmas all around the world.’ We are looking forward to presenting our projects to the rest of the class this week.
They designed some interesting Robots to help with a job around the house.

Well done 4th/5th class on completing your first term. A great bunch full of fun and enthusiasm the first term was a busy one with the children beginning ukulele, maths stations, SWST, conducting experiments, keeping active and making the most of the fleeting summer sunshine.
Fun with Maths!
We enjoyed lots of in class support and active maths in term 1.
SESE
In History we were delighted to visit 3rd classes museum and learn all about the artifacts they had collected from the past. In geography we worked in groups to design Eco Energy Efficient homes. Each group not only designing their own homes but putting great thought into the materials to be used. In science we explored the effects of light air and water on plants and experimented by building our own grass heads.

We made sure to fit in lots of active fun, learning outdoors, trips to the park, daily exercise with Joe Wicks, evening sprints and taking part in Ms Sweeney's active flag efforts,
