'Hoppy' Easter...!
Junior Infants have been so busy since Christmas and have enjoyed lots of lovely celebrations at school such as kindness week and spreading St.Brigid’s cloak of kindness, pancake Tuesday and we loved our pancakes from the parents association, we enjoyed storytime with Mrs Lewis for World Book Day, St. Patrick’s Day with our Lá Glás and our Easter Egg Hunt! We also filled lots of marble jars by doing good listening, making good choices, tidying up the classroom and we got to have our snacks outside, go for a walk and a Teddy Bear’s Picnic.
We’ve been working very hard with Ms Sweeney practising our literacy skills. We are getting so good at using our sounds to blend and say words. We have enjoyed learning how to write new letters and practise copying these from the board. We can even copy words from the board and have written all about ‘Growing Sunflowers’ for our Star Writers board. We have also been learning how to write our names and really enjoy our rhymes that help us write our numbers to 5. During playtime, we have been busy being vets, working in pet shops, using our playdoh to make words, build amazing things with straws, using our new ‘plus plus’ to make letters and enjoy practising our play skills with our friends. We also had ‘Kidz Talk’ with Mrs McGinn in which we listened to new stories and got to invite some Mum’s and Dad’s in to do some activities with us. We learned all about the life cycle of a frog and are so lucky to have had real frogspawn and tadpoles in our outdoor classroom, thank you Mr Sweeny for organising. We loved watching them grow!
We started GAA this term too and are loving learning our fundamental skills with Brian and Tia, we even had a taster session of hurling! We also started our ‘Walk on Wednesday’s’ and walked all the way to the Abbey Centre to see ‘Storytime’ with Senior Infants and First Class. We have also enjoyed working with our partners on the iPads and taking turns to ‘Teach your Monster to Read’, it’s a great game! We have also had lots of fun on the yard with chalk and our yard buddies.
Junior Infants you were a pleasure to teach and I wish you all the best for a busy last term! See you soon, Ms Martin.

Happy Christmas!
We have had another very busy few weeks in Junior Infants. We started learning how to read! We now know that letters make sounds and you can stick these sounds together to make words. We also met some friends in our stories called Emma and Luke. We have also been doing lots of counting and finding sets from 1-5, our Maths Eyes are very good! We've been enjoying using our playdoh to created wonderful things and really enjoy 'Playdough Disco' on Fridays and chalk on the yard to practise our drawing and letters!
We've been busy learning and playing in the resturant and takeaway in November and in December our dress up area turned into Santa's Workshop in which we had to dress up as elves, make and design toys and make sure all the presents are ready for Santa's sleigh. We have also enjoyed doing some Christmas dances especially 'The Cookie Dough' dance. We have also been busy doing some Christmas art. We also have been busy doing some Cosmic Kids yoga especially on wet days. It's so much fun going on the adventures. Finally, we really enjoyed our Christmas concert and performing for all the Mums and Dads, Grannys and Grandas! Well done boys and girls on another busy term, hope Santa is good and we will see you in the New Year! |

Off to a flying start...!
What a busy term we’ve had settling into Holy Family life. We have been working very hard on learning our school rules and they are very important as they keep us all safe. We use kind hands, kind words and kind feet especially on the yard. We also learned new rhymes to help us when lining up silently, safely and sensibly. We’ve been enjoying learning lots of new things and making new friends. We love learning songs and rhymes especially the spooky Halloween ones.
We have been so lucky with the weather that we’ve been able to go to the basketball court for PE and we’ve had great fun practising throwing, catching and balancing with our beanbags. We love assembly on Friday’s and look forward to the weekly Happy Grams. We have been learning about clapping out syllables and rhyming words with Ms Sweeney, looking for 2d and 3d shapes around our school, investigating what can roll or stack and we even got to play Maths games with the big boys and girls during Maths week. It was so much fun.
We have been busy making potions during playtime and dressing up as witches and wizards, we love our playdoh disco in our classroom and have been busy making sets of 1 and 2. We also made ‘shape monsters’ using our 2d shapes and lots of creations with blocks. We have been busy practising our fine motor skills with pegs and tweezers. We love the sand box on yard and we make lots of nice meals in our mud kitchen.
I hope the boys and girls have a lovely Halloween break and we will see them ready for another busy few weeks ahead!
