In-Class Support Fourth and Fifth
I have been really enjoying in-class support in Ms. Curran's fourth and fifth class this term. It has been lovely to get to know the children better.
The children have been working very hard on narrative and procedural writing in English and they have been covering data, multiplication, transformation and subtraction with and without renaming in maths.
Take a look below at some photos from the time fifth and sixth class made top hats for their procedural writing.

Literacy Withdrawal Groups
My literacy groups have been adopting a multi-sensory approach to learning words, including: rainbow writing, using sound boxes and counters, writing new words big/small on the whiteboard, writing new words on snowy tree templates, making words using magnetic letters and old biscuit tin lids and writing words in sentences, as well as writing and sequencing their news. One group enjoyed "Fantastic Mr Fox," while another group were going on adventures with Captain Underpants.
I am so proud of how hard everyone has worked this term! Take a glance below at some of the multi-sensory activities we have been using to remember our new words...

Numeracy Withdrawal
My Numeracy group has been working predominately on the topic of money since I started withdrawing them in Mid-November. They have been mainly working on making amounts up to 20c in different ways using different coins, before progressing to making amounts up to 50c and then 1 euro. They have all worked so diligently throughout and I have really enjoyed working with them.
Wellbeing
Five children have been taking part in Wellbeing sessions this term. Each session usually entails beginning with a positive self-affirmation before voting on a cooperative game to play. Following this, we usually do a bit of reflection in our Wellbeing Journals. Topics covered include: self-regulation (finger/star breathing), resilience, courage, kindness, positive affirmations and thinking about positive personality traits we possess.
The children have enjoyed the small group setting and have engaged so brilliantly in all the activities!

Reading Recovery
Reading Recovery is a short-term literacy intervention on a 1:1 basis, carried out over 12 weeks.
The aim of Reading Recovery is to accelerate reading and writing ability in children between the ages of 5 years, 9 months and 6 years, 6 months.
A typical Reading Recovery lesson is comprised of: familiar Reading, a running record of the new book introduced from the previous day, a letter sort, some word work, writing a sentence of personal news and rearranging the sentence when cut up and an introduction to a new book at the end of the lesson.

Literacy Groups 1 & 2, Third Class
The children from third class have been busy with word work this term. Each week we focus on a different word family, i.e. ai words (rain, paint, etc.), oa words (boat, soap....), ie words (pie, lie...) and so on. We adopt a multi-sensory approach to learning, making the words using magnetic letters, writing the words in rainbow colours on a rainbow template, writing the words outside using chunky chalk and writing silly sentences containing the words.
Some of the children are writing a sentence of their personal news and rearranging a cut-up sentence of their news. They are also reading Fantastic Mr Fox and they are really enjoying learning about Mr Fox's antics!
We use the Super 6 Comprehension Skills during reading (Predicting, Monitoring, Visualising, Questioning, Summarising and Making Connections) and this helps with reading fluency and deepening understanding.
