The Shannon Gallagher Memorial AwardRe Opening Message to ParentsDear Parents,
I am delighted to be able to send this email to inform you that we are on track for welcoming the children back to school next Wednesday. The staff and I are really looking forward to resuming school life with them despite the changes we will be making for everyone’s safety. Please refamiliarize yourselves with the Covid Response Plans sent to you earlier this month. There is some more information below for your attention. New Staff Appointments: I wish to welcome Ms Lisa Collery & Ms Therese Tunney to the teaching staff. Ms Collery will be teaching 1st & 2nd class. Ms Tunney will be teaching Junior Infants on Fridays when Mrs Lewis is working in the office. I also wish to welcome Kayleigh McDevitt to our Special Needs Assistants Team. Morning Routine: We have had lines painted on the yard for the children to be able to line up 1m apart. Please view the following video with your child so that you know how this will be done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dq08rXUSB44 Books, Coats & Bags: If there are concerns about the weight of school bags, the children can bring their books over a period of two days. Please ensure they have their English and Maths books on Wednesday and they can bring additional texts the following day. The storage box must be brought to school on Wednesday. Children may bring coats and bags to school, storage for both will be as normal in the classroom on hooks. Staggered Collection There have been concerns that the front of the school may be very busy at home time. As a result, we have decided that Mr Breslin’s 1st & 2nd Class and Mr. McGroary’s 4th & 5th classes will exit the building and walk to the front of the school at 2:55pm and Ms Maguire’s 2nd & 3rd and Mr Sweeney’s 6th classes will exit at 3pm. We would ask that you leave the school grounds as soon as you have collected your child. Families who have children coming out at different times of course may remain until everyone has been collected. Your support and cooperation in this area will be very much appreciated. Homework Homework will not take place during the settling in period and until safe structures and routines can be established by the teaching staff. Welcome Junior Infants I am very aware that Junior Infants haven’t had the traditional induction to our school. Please watch the following video with them so they will know who their teacher is and what their class will look like. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5sDJFA3QI0 Junior Infant Parents are welcome to stand at the perimeter of the yard when their children line up in the morning. Please remember to maintain a social distance from others. Junior Infants will be the last class to enter the school and we will take the time to say goodbye to parents. When everyone is comfortable, I will bring them inside to their classroom. Unfortunately, due to government guidelines and safety for all parents will not be permitted to enter the class. I have taught Infants and experienced first days many times and in my experience the sooner we do this the more quickly the children will settle. I am very aware that these are exceptional circumstances and I will work hard to build relationships with your children and alleviate any worries they may have. Thank you all for your continued support and understanding. Warm regards, Sarah-Jane Lewis
Dear Parents & Children,
I am writing to introduce myself to you as the new principal of Holy Family National School. Firstly I would like to compliment you all on the wonderful school you have, I have visited it a number of times now and am so impressed with the warm and friendly atmosphere created in the building and the evidence of all the hard work on display. It is obvious to me that the staff and children work very hard and I feel very lucky to be joining such a wonderful school community. I would also like to thank Canon Munster and Mr. McGroary for their warm welcome and great support. Sacrament Classes To the children waiting for their First Holy Communion & Confirmation Day, my how patient you have been! I have two boys who have also been waiting for their communion and confirmation days so I know exactly how you feel. It’s wonderful that you finally have the chance to make your special sacraments. I look forward to meeting you at these very special occasions. Thank you to everyone involved in helping to make this happen. Reopening of School I know the past five months have been very difficult for everyone in so many different ways and I want to reassure you that we will do everything in our power to make the return to school as easy as possible for everyone. Some of you may be worried about how it is all going to work but rest assured that before we open you will receive plenty of information regarding how we will reopen. The government have issued comprehensive guidelines to help schools to reopen and Mr. McGroary and I will be working with the staff on a plan so that everyone will know what is going on and how to respond to our new way of school life. In the meantime if you have any queries could you please send them to our new school email address holyfamily@holyfamilyballyshannon.ie and we will do our best to respond as soon as possible. Finally I would like to wish you all a restful and enjoyable remainder of the summer holidays. Stay safe, warm regards, Sarah-Jane Lewis
