Green Schools
Travel Theme
We are continuing with the theme of Travel this year. Our whole school community is working hard to achieve our new flag.
We have had a busy first term working together to promote and encourage sustainable travel while exploring the most eco friendly methods of travel to and from school.
Our senior class explored ariel maps to trace their route from home to school. Many thanks to our Green School coordinator, Dolores, for assisting!

Cycle Bus
Well done to the boys and girls on our cycle bus. The cycle bus meets at the Mall park every Wednesday morning and the children cycle to school together. Many thanks to the parents/guardians for your support with this initiative and to the members of An Garda Síochána who lead the bus safely to school. We couldn't do it without you! The bus will take a break during the winter months but will be up and running again in the summer term.
Tidy Towns
Our 4th and 5th class students from Ms Curran's room took part in a litter pick led by our Green School Coordinator, Dolores. Barry, from our local Tidy Towns group, came along too. The children were provided with gloves, bags, litter pickers and hi vis vests for the afternoon. Not a piece of litter was safe as the children competed to fill the bags.
On our way back to school, Barry explained the history of the Ballyhanna burial site. The children were fascinated to learn of the town's rich history. Many thanks to Dolores and Barry for a fantastic afternoon.

Tips for a sustainable Christmas from our Green School Committee!
We are hoping to apply for our new Green School flag in March. It will be a fantastic achievement for the committee if we are successful. The children have worked so hard and deserve huge praise for all their efforts. Fingers crossed we will have a new flag to fly in 2026!
