Welcome to Mrs MC Ginn's Class
Hello Chloe, Rhiannon, Robyn, Joni, Úna, Alannah, Freddie, Lorcan, Luke, David, Ryan D, Conor P, Patrick, Tadhg, James, Alex, Caolán, Jimmy, Seán, Ryan N, Dempsey, Orán, Conor D, Larissa, Éabha, Kaithlin, Nicole, Halle and Amy,
Thank you all so much for taking part in home school and thank you to your parents too! I loved being your teacher this year and I think you are all stars. I will miss having you in my class next year. I hope I will get to see you all on Wednesday but if I don't I wish you a happy and healthy summer.
Happy July birthday to Ryan D, Nicole, Alannah and Freddie and happy August birthday to Tadhg, Ryan N, and Chloe!
I haven't put up work for this week but if you have any pages you would like to finish that would be great. I'm putting up some scavenger hunts you might like too! (Don't forget to ask a grown up before you start).

Hi everyone. I hope you enjoyed the nice weather! I can't believe it is June already. Thank you to all the girls and boys for the hard work you have been doing. I know that when the weather is nice it is more difficult to concentrate on work.
I have put some information from Irish Water Safety this week. There are some nice activities and lessons that you might like. I think water safety is really important so if you can please have a look. Thank you again for the work and photos you have sent to me.

Hi everyone, I hope home school is going well for you all and not causing any stress at home. Do what is comfortable for you to manage. There is no pressure to complete everything I suggest. From the emails I received you are all doing a great job! I have found, for me, when it comes to reading books and materials the oxfordowl.co.uk site is the easiest to manage but any reading is great. Going back over word lists and sentences in the reading copy for senior infants children in particular is a good idea. Active school week usually takes place every April but this year families are invited to take part at home. Each child is encouraged to take part in some form of exercise for four blocks of 15 minutes each day to total 60 mins per day. There is a form that children can fill out and return if they wish to do so. Keep an eye on the Active Schools link at the top of the home page on the school website. =========================================================================================== |

English- reading please continue to read for about 10 minutes each day. Going back over words and sentences in the reading copies is good to help keep the words familiar. The website I find easiest to use at home is the oxfordowl.co.uk and it has the supplementary readers we use in school.
Spelling- continue with whatever unit you are on and try to write 1-2 of the words each day in a sentences. (If you are doing more, well done!)
Handwriting- pages 30-34 v,w,x,z,y If this is a struggle half a page.
Word Wise- Oral language P71 On the Bus
page 23 write a shopping list
storylineonline is a nice website to just listen to a story being read. It's very easy to use!
Irish- RTE hub. If you want to do some Irish at home start in the copies and revise is ainm dom and mé féin (my name and parts of the body)
Maths- page 80 problem solving
page81 length
page 82 length
Will The Worm- if you don't have cubes at home use any small items such as lego bricks or paper clips.

Working from Home
suggested work for the week 20th-24th April
Welcome back to home school. I hope everyone had a happy and healthy Easter. I will post work for each week on this web page but I understand that it may not be possible to get every task completed. I do not want to add pressure to anyone so please do what you can and don't worry too much-I'm still getting used to home schooling myself!
I would suggest that reading and maths would be the main things to focus on. Irish may not be possible for all parents to teach but there are websites such as Séideán Sí and Cúla 4 that are useful. Also Múinteoir Ray on the RTE hub is a good way to keep up with vocabulary and listening skills.
Reading is most important at all levels. The last book I would normally cover from The Wandsville Series with senior infants is Globby's football Match and the last one for first class is called Camper Van Fun. Most children had already completed these books before school finished but if not, the are available on the CJ Fallon website. The supplementary readers I use are from the Oxford reading Tree (oxford owl website).
As a rough guide, I would suggest that, if possible, senior infants might spend about an hour each day on their school work with a break after 30 minutes and first may be able for a little longer but also with a break every half hour.

Senior infants
English: reading- try to read for about 10 min each day. Any easy reader books are fine or use the books from the websites above.
spelling-continue to work through the spelling workbook and activities (one unit per week)
writing-use the words from spelling unit to write a simple sentence (one or two each day)
handwriting-if possible a page each day. (pages 25-29 for this week. If this is a struggle complete half the page only).
Word Wise - oral language page 70 Spring and page 22 Farm Animals
Maths: I think most children will have finished their home school links book this week so in the main text book we are ready to continue with combining and partitioning pages 77 ,78 and 79. Some children will find these pages easier if they have counters or any concrete materials to use when adding and subtracting.
What a Wonderful World: Spring theme pages 34 and 43.
First Class
English: reading- please continue to read each day 10-15 minutes
spelling- continue to work through one unit each week and complete activities
writing- using the words from spelling list put 3 words each day into a sentence
free writing- a few sentences about spring
hand writing- continue working through the handwriting book ( 1-2 pages)
Word Wise- pages 56 and 57 phonics and vocab development
Window on the World: Science-mixing
pages 50 and 51 . Additional activities on www.chemforkids.com/
Maths : continue to work through home- school links book.
Operation Maths book: length pages 90 and 91.
page 90-if you dont have a bean bag use a tennis ball, orange etc
page 91- use a measuring tape or string. Instead of classroom furniture just use the door and table at home.
New Wave : continue with the next unit in your book (Monday-Friday)

Thank you to everyone for collecting books from the school. If you didn't get a chance to call in I will post some work suggestions for after the Easter break to the website. Just to let you know that CJ Fallon have the reading scheme we use available online and the books can be accessed by parents and students. Also, I have listed websites on the sheets I left for collection that might be useful. I hope everyone is keeping well and that I'll see all my boys and girls again soon. Take care of yourselves, Anita.
Scroll down for activities for maths at home (and work suggestions up to the Easter Holiday).

Please try to read together for 10 minutes.
It would be great if the children could continue to work on their writing and letter formation. This will be harder for some than others. Using words from spellings, ask the children to write some simple sentences.
