Lurgybrack School Tour
Sports For All Day
We had great fun during our Sports for All Day a few weeks ago. Our day began with a disco in the hall followed by fun games in the field with Sylvester Maguire and Emer O Mahoney. After break time we did Pilates with Magda and Zumba dancing with Barbara. We finished the day with a trip to Pearse O Neill's for ice-cream and hurling in Munday's field with John Larkin. Thanks to all the coaches for such an enjoyable day.
Fun in the sun
We enjoyed the fine weather earlier in the term by getting out and about around the school grounds. We enjoyed reading time in the outdoor classroom and had fun on the climbing wall and playing games in the basketball court.
Science Fun
We have had lots of fun in science throughout the third term. We carried out experiment to determine the factors affecting plant growth, we experimented with magnets and identified magnetic and non-magnetic materials in our classroom environment and also learned about light, temperature and natural and man-made materials.
Hurling with Declan
We really enjoyed our hurling lessons and fundamental movement skills classes with Declan Sherlock throughout the third term.
Creative play
We have had lots of fun fun enjoying creative and co-operative play with Lego, Magnatiles, Sticklebricks and other construction toys
Seachtain na Gaeilge/Lá Glas
Bhaineamar an-sult as Seachtain na Gaeilge agus Lá Glás, Chanamar amhráin Gaeilge, ghlacamar páirt i seisiún ceol tradisiúnta sa halla, d'fhoghlamar cupla seanfhocail Gaeilge, bhí tráth na gceist againn agus rinnemar postaer chun an teanga a ardaigh.
Run Around Europe
We are continuing to work on our 'Run Around Europe' challenge. Our target is to run 778kmas a class which is the equivalent to the distance from Dublin to Paris. We run for about 6 minutes each morning and have currently completed over 550km with three days of our challenge remaining
World Book Day
We had great fun in first class celebrating World Book Day. We really enjoyed our story-telling session with Mrs Lewis who read one of Roald Dahl's 'Revolting Rhymes' for us. We also enjoyed joining up with fourth class for paired reading and we also discussed our favourite books and story characters in class. We have recently submitted an order of books from our library through Scholastic Books which we hope will arrive very soon.
Maths Fun
We have been having lots of fun in Maths throughout the second term learning about topics such as money, fractions, time, length and data as well as plenty of number work!
Recent Artwork
Above are some examples of artwork we have done in class recently. Additionally, we made St Patrick's Day mobiles and St Valentine's Day and Mother's Day cards.
Fundamental Movement Skills with Declan
We really enjoyed our Fundamental Movement Skills workshops with Declan Sherlock early in the second term. We did lots of running, jumping and balancing activities as well as fun games such as Tug 'o War. We a re looking forward to Declan returning for some more sessions after the Easter holidays.
Christmas Show
We have been extremely busy over the last few weeks preparing for our Christmas Nativity play. We really enjoyed the dress rehearsal last week and can't wait to perform the show for our parents and grandparents in the coming days.
GAA with Brian Roper
We have really enjoyed our coaching sessions with Brian Roper on a Friday morning. We have been working hard at developing our ball handling and kicking skills.
Visit from Santa Claus
We were delighted when Santa Claus visited the school last week. We had a great chat with him and asked lots of questions about himself, Mrs Claus and the reindeer. We were delighted when he gave us each a Christmas annual which we have been busy working on in class whenever we have some free time.
Christmas Art
We have really enjoyed doing Christmas Art over the last few weeks. We made Christmas stockings and learned how to draw Christmas elves and are looking forward to more Christmas Art later this week.
Literacy Lift Off
We have been taking part in the Literacy Lift Off programme with Ms Maguire and Ms Sweeny over the last six weeks. We have worked in small groups on different elements of literacy. We have received a new book to practise each day and have worked hard on developing our phonological awareness, sentence writing skills, syllabification and rhyming patterns.
Autumn Walk
In Geography we learned all about the seasonal changes associated with autumn. We went for an autumn walk to Mundy's field where we identified signs of autumn in the environment. We collected autumn leaves, conkers, beech nuts, acorns and helicopter keys.
Maths Week 2023
We had great fun during Maths week. We played 'Maths Bingo' each day, solved the 'Principal's Puzzles', played number games with playing cards and enjoyed making 3D constructions from 2D polydrons and Magnatiles.
Art lessons
In art we experimented with mixing colours to produce new colours and a variety of tones of the same colour. We then used what we learned to create landscape pictures, 'The Yellow Submarine' paintings and Halloween silhouettes.
Co-operative play
Earlier in the term we spent several afternoons engaged in co-operative and creative play. We worked in groups to complete jigsaws, play Maths and language games and create imaginative pieces using Lego, Sticklebricks and K'nex.
Science lessons
In Science we learned all about how a submarine works. We then carried out experiments to establish which materials float and sink. Also this half-term in Science, we studied the effects of friction and explored our five senses.
