S.E.T. April- June
The final term has been a very busy one! All of the children have worked so hard and we have been doing lots of revision over the last few weeks to practise all of the numerical and literacy skills that we have been learning this year. We have been learning in an active manner through lots of different games (photos below).
Senior Infants engaged in Literacy Lift Off and they made great progress with their reading and writing. 2nd, 4th and 5th class took part in a S.W.S.T. spelling intervention this term. I hope everyone enjoys their well deserved summer break!

Literacy Activities Junior Infants- 6th
November/ December:
My EAL group were learning all about food in November and Clothes in December. We really enjoyed reading the “Hungry Caterpillar” and sequencing the story. We also enjoyed making smoothies (see photos below).
My math groups have been doing lots of hands on activities such as constructing numbers, identifying the number word before and after. My first class pupils have really enjoyed playing the game “Count Around”. They have also been working hard with the addition strategy of counting on. My second and sixth class pupils have been working on counting groups of 4/5 coins and trying to beat each other’s total. Second class pupils have been learning how to identify odd and even numbers using Numicon and we learned a rhyme to help us with this.
First class have been engaging in Literacy Lift Off this term with myself, Ms. Maguire and Clara. My station involved reading an unfamiliar book each day. I love how much their confidence, expression when reading and their ability to sound out challenging words has improved over the six week period.
Some of my literacy groups have been further developing their phonological skills, with a particular focus on counting syllables using lots of hands-on activities. They have also been working hard on learning new spelling rules and practicing these rules through dictation and multi-sensory approaches such as the use of magnetic letters.
September/ October:
My junior math groups and math's recovery pupils have been very busy this term. They have been working on forward and
backward number word sequences and counting collections that are screened/un-screened. We also had lots of fun for
maths week. From smartie maths to estimating how many pom poms were in the jar. My senior pupils have been
practicing their times tables using Numicon and lots of enjoyable games.
