Welcome to Rock Hub 2 23/24
The students have had a great summer term. They helped with our school Well-being day by setting up obstacle courses for the all of the students in the school and showing them the different exercises and games that we do every day to help us stay strong and ready to learn. We had some lovely Liquid Therapy sessions at Rossknowlagh beach and the children have really improved their swimming skills in the local pool this term. The children went on lots of different trips with their friends and classmates the school from Lurgybrack farm to a trip to Derry. We have worked hard on Numeracy and Literacy skills this term and made some brownies and egg muffins in baking. The students really enjoyed Active Schools Week especially the disco on Sports Day!
The children in the Rock Hub have had a great term 2. We know how important daily movement and exercise is to be healthy and strong so we make sure to be active during the day. It also helps us get ready for learning. We have been going on walks, doing circuit training and obstacle courses in the hall, dancing to our favourite songs and having lots of fun learning different games to play for P.E and at break time. The younger children enjoyed dancing games with Coach Declan. We have also been enjoying the Run Around Europe challenge and joining our friends in the school for running laps. Some of the children have been working hard on developing their fine motor skills, writing and cutting. We love using the interactive whiteboard and Ipad for Maths activities and learning our letters. The older students have been enjoying using EPIC to read a book or listen to an audiobook on the laptop and using the coding programme Scratch to develop games on the computer. Some of the children enjoyed trips to the Abbey Centre, the library, Castle Caldwell and visiting secondary school. We have enjoyed playing musical games and composing our own rhythms for each other to play on instruments. We made some Easter nests and are excited for our Easter hunt.
The children have had lots of fun and have been preparing for Christmas. We have been going on winter walks to Munday's field and singing and playing along to Christmas songs. We made sock snowmen and yummy rice krispie trees. The children have been practising their different plays and we enjoyed trips to the Abbey centre and cinema this term. The younger students in the Rock Hub have been working hard on their number and counting skills while the older students have learning all about money and shopping. We also started football coaching with coach Brian.
For Science Week 2023 the children made playdough and then designed and created their own playdough mazes for each other to solve. Have a look below. Some students added signs and extra challenges into their mazes. The students also carried out colour experiments.
We have had a very busy term. The children have had lots of fun working on their fine motor and sensory activities in the morning. We have also been doing lots of dancing and exercise every day. The older students have been reading novels and enjoyed listening to audiobooks. We have had fun with songs, games and teamwork activities in circle time. The children learnt all about autumn and went on a scavenger hunt to Munday's field. They listened to stories about autumn and baked hedgehog biscuits. We also made some pizza and spooky treats! For Maths week we played some Maths games and went hunting for the principal's puzzles.
