Home School Community Liaison
My name is Anita Mc Ginn and I am the Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) in Holy Family National School.
The HSCL recognises parents and guardians as the primary educators of their children. The aim of the HSCL is to promote partnership between home, school and the wider community to ensure each child is supported to reach their full potential and ensure a positive learning experience.
Some activities undertaken by the HSCL are:
Home Visits. A chance to talk over any questions or concerns you may have.
Organisation of in-school activities and classes for parents/guardians.
Advising and supporting parents/guardians on education related issues
Encouraging cooperation between home, school and community groups
Supporting transitions from pre school to primary and from primary to post primary
Thank you!
Our first term has been a wonderful success.
I would like to thank all parents and guardians for getting involved in our school activities.
Thank you to the infant parents/guardians for attending the ‘Starting homework' talk. It is lovely getting to know all our new pupils and their parents/guardians.
Thank you to everyone involved in our Cycle Bus for their help on Thursday mornings.
Thank you all for supporting the school book fair and thank you to the amazing Parents’ association for suggesting the Christmas Cards for school.
Some dates for November!
Team Hope
Team Hope shoe boxes are due back in school on November the 6th for anyone who would like to fill a box.
Dance Fit
Dance Fit classes for Parents/Guardians are starting in November. Dance Fit classes are a great way to exercise and look after our health. They are such a fun way to stay in shape. The classes last year were really fantastic. I can honestly say I have never enjoyed exercising as much! Come along and try a class!
Starting Tuesday the 5th of November from 11.30-12.15 and running for four weeks. One of our parents, Caroline McGurl, will run the class. Thank you, Caroline! Classes are free of charge for parents/guardians.
A very special thanks to everyone who welcomed me into their homes, chatted on the phone or called to see me in school.
If you would like to contact me my phone number is 083 0094276 or email [email protected]
Happy Christmas
Thank you to everyone who supported the Team Hope Shoebox appeal. The school collected over 60 shoe boxes full of gifts and treats for children less fortunate.
A video showing the distribution of last year's boxes can be seen on the website teamhope.ie.
A big thank you also goes to all the families who sent 'too small' Christmas jumpers into school. It is a great way to recycle, reduce waste and support our green school efforts!
The children enjoyed making Christmas Cards for school. Thank you for supporting this wonderful Parents' Association fundraiser.
It is lovely for the children to see their cards professionally printed.
Many thanks to Caroline at Creative Fitness for her fantastic Dance Fit classes. As always, her classes were as much about having fun as improving fitness. It was great to have so many parents/guardians attend the sessions. Thanks to you all.
Our Christmas Craft class was a lovely way to get into the festive spirit. Teal guided us though woolen snowflakes and Christmas tree decorations. A little glitter added the final finishing touch!

It was fantastic to have so many parents/guardians, grandparents, aunties, uncles and friends at our Christmas performances. There was a real sense of Christmas magic in the air! I hope you enjoyed the performances as much as we did.
I wish you all a very happy Christmas and healthy New Year.
Happy Easter!
Attendance
I would like to thank all the children and their teachers for taking part in our Hip, Hip, Hooray! attendance campaign.
I think I enjoyed bringing around the cinema passes as much as the children enjoyed receiving them. It is lovely to celebrate great attendance and I am looking forward to planning another attendance reward before the end of the school year.
Our Shoes
The Our Shoes campaign was such a great success we managed to fill 5 large bags of sports shoes. Thank you for donating so generously. If you would like to find out a little more information on the charity you can log onto ourshoes.ie.
Kidstalk
It was fantastic to have so many parents and grandparents involved with our Junior Infant Kidstalk programme. The children love to see their parents/guardians in school and I am so grateful to everyone for finding the time to take part.
Junior Infants
The summer term is always such an exciting time as we get to know our new Junior Infant class and meet the parents/guardians. Our open day was a great success and our pupils received many compliments on their amazing tours.
There will be another opportunity to visit, but in the meantime, if anyone has any questions or would like to get in touch please just let me know.
Easter Crafts
This Thursday the 10th of April we are having an Easter Craft session for parents/guardians in school. The class will run from 1pm-2pm. All parents/grandparents/guardians are welcome to join in.
Many thanks to Teal for facilitating the class for us.
Summer Term
The last term may have been a short but it was certainly busy!
Our Cycle bus and bike week celebration was a great success. The weather was not always on our side but we had a great group of children and amazing parents on the days the sun appeared.
Suzanne's fitness class was very enjoyable. We mastered some dance routines and enjoyed some fun fitness activities. Thank you to Suzanne!
Thank you to all the parents who helped in anyway with the Communion party. We had parents to help with setting up the hall, baking, helping on the day and staying behind to clear up afterwards. All the help and support is greatly appreciated.
We had a lovely Tús Maith transition morning for our new entrants from Saimer Childcare. It was a very enjoyable morning with games, songs and a few treats. It was lovely to spend time with all the children. It was also lovely to meet our new parents/guardians on our Open Day. I am here to offer and help or support you may need as your little one transitions to big school!
I am looking forward to our Ag Sugradh le Chéile session on Thursday. Donegal Sports Partnership has facilitated many workshops and they have always been fun and enjoyable mornings.
Our sixth class children are graduating on Wednesday. I am so proud to have taught this amazing group of children and watched how they have grown from infants to sixth class. I wish them every success in secondary school. Graduation is all about looking forward to the future but I hope they will remember that they are always welcome to come back and see us in Holy Family
Have a lovely summer,
Anita
