Home School Community Liaison
My name is Anita Mc Ginn and I am the Home School Community Liaison (HSCL) in Holy Family National School.
The HSCL recognises parents and guardians as the primary educators of their children. The aim of the HSCL is to promote partnership between home, school and the wider community to ensure each child is supported to reach their full potential and ensure a positive learning experience.
Some activities undertaken by the HSCL are:
Home Visits. A chance to talk over any questions or concerns you may have.
Organisation of in-school activities and classes for parents/guardians.
Advising and supporting parents/guardians on education related issues
Encouraging cooperation between home, school and community groups
Supporting transitions from pre school to primary and from primary to post primary
Our first term has been a wonderful success.
I would like to thank all parents and guardians for getting involved in our school activities.
Thank you to the infant parents/guardians for attending the ‘Starting homework/Seesaw’ talk and for the huge support you have given the ‘Bedtime book Library’.
Thank you all for supporting the school book fair and for donating so generously to our Halloween costume collection.
Thank you to the amazing Parents’ association for suggesting the Christmas Cards for school.
A very special thanks to everyone who welcomed me into their homes.

Thank you so much to everyone involved in our HSCL activities this term.
The Christmas Shoe Box collection was a great success. The children always love to see the boxes stacked and displayed, ready for collection. Thank you so much for your support with this project and for your donations to our Halloween costume and Christmas jumper collections.
It was a lovely to meet everyone at the Parent/Teacher evenings and welcome our new parents to the school. I am really looking forward to seeing you all again for our Christmas show performances.
Thank you for getting behind the ‘Hip, hip, hooray! We’re all here today.’ I had so much fun popping into the classrooms with certificates and prizes. You can see some of the class photos and video on our school facebook page.
Thank you to Teresa Maguire and to the parents/guardians from our Christmas craft mornings. We crafted, chatted and, under Teresa’s watchful eye, we created some lovely cards and decorations.
Thank you also to the parents/guardians using our Bedtime Book library. It is fantastic to see so many children and parents collecting books every Thursday.
I have booked some Dance Fit sessions for parents/guardians in the New Year to give us all a chance to start the New Year with music and dancing! I will send out more information closer to the time.
I would like to especially thank the parents who invited me into their homes, called to meet me in school or got in touch this term. My role is to listen to parents and help in any way can. I am always here to chat or offer support.
If you would like to contact me please email mrsmcginn@holyfamilyballyshannon.ie or by phone 083 0094276.
Have a happy Christmas and a healthy New Year!
Anita
Many thanks to all the parents, grandparents and guardians who took part in our Ag Súgradh le Cheile sessions.
The sessions were so much fun for the children and they really do love to see their 'big person' in school.
Donegal Sports Partnership facilitate the sessions but without your support we would not be able to host the activities.
Our Grandparents mass was a lovely occasion for the second class to celebrate with some of the special people in their lives. It was also lovely to have so many attend their First Confession and join in with the celebration afterwards.
We had lots of fun making the St Brigid's crosses. Every year I manage to pick up a few new tips and tricks!
Thank you to Caroline for her amazing Dance Fit classes. I think I speak for everyone when I say they really were so much fun. Everyone ended the sessions feeling invigorated and ready for the week ahead.
Thank you for supporting our Stronger Starts initiative. It is great to have fresh fruit and veg delivered every week.
Have a lovely summer break, Anita.
